The Family

July 6th, 2012

I was in Canada a couple weeks ago – more specifically Ottawa (my hometown).  My grandmother turned 80 at the end of June and my family was throwing a surprise party for her.  After some conspiring with my little sister, we decided that I would show up at the party as a surprise to not only my grandparents, but my parents as well.  I hadn’t seen the grandfolks in about 5 years (it had been almost two years since seeing my parents) – and it amazes me how much my family ages.  More accurately, I guess it amazes me at how being away for such long periods of time forces me to notice the aging process.  I have always had what I considered “young” grandparents – and to visibly notice them getting older is kind of disconcerting.  And so I photograph them…

You're so lucky to have had this opportunity. If there is one thing I wish I could go back in time and photograph, it's my grandparents. Great shots Angela.
