Red
November 12th, 2009I’d like to introduce the world to Red – a very cute (and surprisingly patient) dog and the subject of my first attempt at pet portraiture.

I shot this using three Canon Speedlites (two main lights and a background light)…I was a little worried about the recycle time at first, since one has to be pretty speedy when photographing animals, but it turned out my worry was for naught. The main lights were at 1/2 power and I didn’t notice a lag in my shooting at all. That may also have something to do with the fact that Red (as most dogs) has a very short attention span and had to be repositioned often…
I was pretty stoked with how the images turned out and I discovered that I kind of love photographing animals…who would’ve thought? The most amusing image of the afternoon was the last frame of the day – Red giving me the evil eye and getting ready to lunge for the toy I had in my hand:

These pet portraits are fab. They work really well in the a series in my opinion. The evil eye made me laugh
I like Red, Nice shots, and congrats on Colour Theory in W25 magazine (January 2010), Good stuff~ xot
