test shoot

TAPE magazine

May 14th, 2012

Last month I did something I haven’t done in years – I had a model come over and we shot – just her and I – no makeup, no hair, no wardrobe stylist.  I shot in a much more lo-fi style than I normally do – and I really enjoyed it.  Recently I’ve found myself going back to my photography roots – and I learned photography on film cameras, without using Photoshop.  While I did shoot digitally, I also ran a roll of colour slide film through my Pentax and then cross processed it.

Throughout the month of April, I had also been in contact with the editor at TAPE magazine – after shooting with Angie I sent him over some proofs and he picked up the series for the second issue!  Not only that, but Touchpuppet (an awesome fashion blog) posted the editorial as well.

Here are some images that didn’t make it into the magazine (NSFW after the jump)

Marley

April 12th, 2012

About a year ago I shot with Marley for the first time. Both her and I have come a long way over the past 12 months and it was nice to be reunited and do a shoot with a completely different vibe.

Kasia

March 14th, 2012

Last month I had the opportunity to shoot with Kasia Pilewicz, who was visiting from New York (you may recognize her from America’s Next Top Model Cycle 16).  She was looking into signing with an agency out here and wanted to shoot something more natural and I’m always looking to add to my lifestyle portfolio so it was a pretty perfect match.  We spent the afternoon on Venice Beach with my good friend Jeannie Bolet, who did hair and makeup.

Wet Paint

February 29th, 2012

I shot this beauty story a while ago after seeing some beauty images shot through a piece of glass with coloured wax on it.  I got some sheets of acrylic and used different techniques to apply paint to it and then shot through the painted acrylic.  Light placement was tricky as I needed to avoid glare and reflections on the acrylic as much as possible.  I was also working within a small space and needed the model pretty close to the acrylic to make sure both she and the paint were in focus.  I ended up using a small softbox as my main light – up high – pointed down at the model.  I then had a second light at camera left (but slightly behind the model) to kick in a little extra.  You can see the full story in my portfolio.

Carolyn

February 13th, 2012

I’m working on a new project of sorts – stripped down portraits of models – no hair stylist, minimal makeup, the model’s own simple clothing.  I want it to be about the girl and not all the “glitter”.  This is my first attempt.
